Self Mastery: What Is a Soul?

OprahandMayaJust a couple days ago, I was watching Oprah's Super Soul Sunday when her guest was Maya Angelou.  I was watching it with my husband, relaxing and remembering seeing Maya on one of my favorite Tyler Perry movies, "Madea's Family Reunion."

Oprah asked Maya at one point, "What Is a Soul?"  Maya had a good answer on what she thought a soul is.  It was a bit vague, but still a good idea and opinion.

As soon as I heard Oprah say that question, though, my mind downloaded and I had to grab a sheet of paper and a pen to start writing what my idea of a soul is and I wanted to share it here.

My husband was astounded at my idea of what a soul is.  What I wrote down is this:

"The soul is that part of us that claims a part of the Source Energy as our own and the ego gives it a label.  The soul concept is difficult to understand and define from the vantage point of our linear existence, since the soul is not linear."

Okay, so you may be saying, "wait...what?"

linear-existense-self-masterySome of you may be aware of what I mean by a linear existence, so I will define what I have learned from years of learning from many spiritual masters on the subject of ego and spirit.  Especially Esther Hicks, Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer.

What I have learned is that we live according to how time is laid out.  Time is a way that our brains and minds can track events and the "now" as it unfolds.

This is the way our minds can learn, understand and act on our surroundings.

There are a few books out there that have challenged my mind with this one statement, "everything happens simultaneously...our past, present and future are all happening right now."  This is difficult if not impossible for our minds to grasp since we have been taught and live in events happening in a sequence, according to time.

Time is a man-made concept.  So, our linear existence, according to time, is something we made up to put structure to how we experience our surroundings.  This is also the reason that many "sourcerers" (those who are of The Source) out there can master "self" by understanding our linear existence.

Our minds are very powerful.  Powerful beyond our comprehension.
